Life and Career

1927 Born in Göttingen
1946-1948 After returning from English captivity, he apprenticed as a stonemason (first sculptural attempts)
1949-1954 Studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy under Otto Baum -  German National Academic Foundation Scholarship.
1956 First exhibition participation
1957 Received the "Junger Westen 57" Art Award for Sculpture ((then, the first and only award for progressive Avant-Garde Art in accordance with ECHO (European Community Humanitarian Office)). This was followed by his first solo exhibitions and acquisitions.
1959

Received the "Junger Westen 59" Art Award, this time, for drawings as well as the "Society for Young Artists" Award, Baden - Baden. He received the Villa Massimo Scholarship and spent the majority of the year working intensively in Rome.


Participated in 'Documenta II', the 2nd Biennial of Young Artists at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, and the 'European Art Today' traveling exhibition in the United States.

1960 The works he created in Rome were exhibited the Cologne Art Association. Cimiotti's sculptures were featured in the German pavilion next to builders, Bissier and Schmidt-Rottluff at the 30th Venice Biennale.
1961-1962 Participated in the 3rd Biennial of Young Artists at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris - solo exhibitions at Otto van de Loo and Dieter Brusberg.
1963-1965 Offered a teaching position, but decided to follow a call from Brunswick, where a new art school was founded with his involvement. Participated in the 'Documenta III' with  sculptures and drawings.
1975-1980 Participated in a 'comprehensive retrospect' in the Kunsthalle Mannheim. The National Gallery in Berlin acquired his early sculpture 'The Forest' and a range of drawings.
1989-1992 Displayed a retrospective at the Kunsthalle in the Dominican Church in Osnabrück and at the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen.
1993-1999 Participated in the European Sculpture Exhibition in the unofficial Lehmbruck Museum Wilhelm in Duisburg. Elected as a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, Brandenburg.
2000-2005 Worked daily in his studio in Hedwigsburg.
